This year the COMETS did extremely well, making it to Einsteins at the Detroit worlds competition. Over the season, we accumulated 6 blue banners, 3 from winning the 3 district level competitions we attended, 1 from winning a district level Chairman's award, 1 from winning our division (Carson) at states, and 1 for winning our division at worlds.
Some on the unique things we have done this year that he hadn't priorly :
- Prototyping- this year we took a unique approach to designing our robot when starting off the season. Everyone split off into several groups, each focusing on (A game strategy and later (B a unique element of game play (Ex: climb, cube intake system) . After the original brainstorming session, everyone split off into groups and worked on whatever their interests and talents lye (Ex: CAD, programming, etc.).
- Team-wide inclusion- this year the COMETS put special emphasis on inclusion. We did this by making sure to include non-seniors on the ahead team and scouting team, as well as just generally trying to be more of a cohesive and open team.
- Organisation- our team has became much more organised, whether it be through online systems such as a google drive or by having a structured plan for competitions.
- New recruit inclusion & training- a thing of great importance this year has been training our freshman recruits. Since we had so many seniors this year, the COMETS underclassman really had to mature as well as the COMETS upperclassman having to educate the underclassmen and help prepare them for the upcoming years.
